Kiddie Music at M.E.L.C. is the equivalent of a music appreciation course. However, Kiddie Music incorporates a lot of physical activity through the use of various instruments and a children's choir. The course is designed to introduce a child to the wealth of different instruments available, the families that comprise an orchestra, the great composers of Western Music, basics of music theory and notation, etc.
The goal is to give a child a basis in music that they will be able to apple towards their future when they leave M.E.L.C. By teaching the children in a group setting they can enjoy learning with their peers and be a part of the children's choir, which will perform recitals in November and May.
I hope that the children involved will gain a love for music that will inspire them to excel in their future music courses, in whatever school they attend, and even go as far as to have the desire to study an instrument through private lessons. A syllabus is given out every two months to help parents keep track of what's going on (see sample below). Each child is given a folder that should be kept in their locker and checked weekly as all worksheets, syllabus, notes and report cards (sent home every 2 months) will be placed in their folder.
$25.00 includes four 30 minute sessions (once a week) per month.
