Private lessons are designed to give the child a foundation in music that he or she will be able to apply towards their future. Instruction in theory, singing and performance are stressed. The program is designed to foster a love within the child for music and parents are actively involved as "Practice Reports" are sent home every week. The reports monitor the child's progress and answer the parent's questions as to what they should be doing at home. Recitals are given in November and May if and when the child is ready to perform. The recommended age for lessons is five, however, advanced 4 year olds will be taught on a trial basis. No child under 4 years of age may be enrolled. Most children begin to perform as soloists in recital when they reach the 1st grade.
Lessons are held Monday through Friday in the M.E.L.C. Fine Arts Building. Payment is due the first of every month. Make up lessons for missed sessions can be easily scheduled if done so in advance.
M.E.L.C. Students Ages 9 and under: $35.00 per month. Includes four 20 minute sessions every month. Depending on the child's attention span and maturity level the lesson time may be extended to 30 minutes but always a minimum of 20 minutes will be given. The number of lessons given in a month may vary due to holidays such as Christmas and Spring Break. However, since the arts calendar is run on a 12 month basis, some months will have 5 lessons and others 3, but always an average of 4.
